Dear friends of Beara,

It is very strange for me to sit now at my desk in Isla Negra, Chile and think how and what to tell you about this exhibition, is very emotional….

First of all, you need to know that this show is to honor all of you, to show you respect and love for your existence, you people of Beara are so especial, and not only for me, you are special cos you choose –or not-  to live in that part of the world and that makes you very particular.

I have been like a little gypsi artist since im 17 years old, and never stayed for longer than 2 years anywhere (only when I was in Art college). Something happen in Beara that makes me stay almost 7 years and I will never forget that expirience.

When I was there all the time since I arrived there, I thought wow! this land is amazing and have the most beautiful people, kind, funny, sensitive and strong! Big hearts!! Superior Landscape!!

On a skype conversation with my friend Anelys who was at that time in Chiloé I said to her that  will be a dream to bring her here, that was on 2014th or beginning of 2015th.“This land is so connected with Chiloé, the geography, the weather, the animals and flora around…. But they have such a different way of doing things here, it’s like when im here im there too but like upside down or inside out, It was more like a special feeling, like a dream really, almost a need of connecting both places…

As we start talking about it with Anelys, the idea start growing, and then becomes a big project, which I tried hard to accomplish for months, but life just send me into another direction and the idea got frozen.

But Anelys stayed with the idea, she was already in love with Beara with all the thing I said to her.

This show is out of pure love, If Anelys is there now, is only because she had the conviction that the “idea” of going there will be so important, identify with other cultures makes us feel more humans, more universal… And also her own project of making paintings from old photographs of people or families from there is kind of a scaner of the spirit of the place, of the land, of you all…

She is like the old wonderers, a seeker, she is searching and observing the world and cultures constantly and she gives back beautiful paintings translating the life of others, that is our life as well in some way. An exercise of human identification.

Im so happy of introduce you to Anelys and her “Chilota” being, Im so glad that through art we can connect different point of the globe, and it is amazing that is happening with two little spots of the earth and not big cities, cos in little towns we use to live more separated of other places of other people! So big point there!

Thanks to everybody which help her (us) to make this possible, thanks to Sarah for hold up this exhibition and been so open with the idea, thanks to Maurren for been an angel a star a super friend, thanks to John (my landlord for years there), Marlene, Dorothy, Sheila, Eyeries people and Pubs and to all the people that facilitate photographs to Anelys and thanks to all the community of the Beara Peninsula for been part of this all heart project.

How I wish to be there with you now!!!

Isla negra, 16 de nobviembre de 2017

Queridos amigos de Beara,

Es muy extraño, sentarme frente a mi escritorio en Isla Negra (Chile) y pensar en qué y cómo hablarles sobre esta exposición, es muy emocionante.

Primero que todo, ustedes tienen que saber que esta exposición es en honor a ustedes, para demostrarles respeto y amor por su existencia. Ustedes, gente de Beara son muy especiales, y no solo para mí, ustedes son especiales porque ustedes eligieron (o no) vivir en esa parte del mundo que les hace ser muy particulares.

He sido como una artista gitana por 17 años y nunca estuve en ningún lugar por más de dos años, solo en los tiempos en que estuve en la escuela de arte.

Algo pasó en Beara que me hizo estar ahí por más de 7 años y nunca voy a olvidar esa experiencia.

Cuando estuve allí, todo el tiempo desde que llegué pensé: “wow, esta tierra es increíble”; tengo la más hermosa gente, dulce, divertida, sensible y fuerte! Grandes corazones! Paisaje superior!

En una conversación por Skype con mi amiga Anelys  quien estaba en esa época en Chiloé le he dicho que sería un sueño traerla aquí, eso fue en el 2014  o comienzos del 2015, esta tierra está conectada con Chiloé, la geografía, el clima, la flora y fauna. Pero ellos tienen una forma de hacer las cosas diferentes que aquí,  es como si cuando yo estoy aquí, estoy allá también como de un lado y del otro al mismo tiempo, es una sensación especial, como un sueño, siempre con la necesidad de conectar estos dos lugares… Cuando comenzamos a hablar de esto con Anelys, la idea comenzó a crecer, y ahí se convirtió en un gran proyecto, el cual traté de realizar por meses, pero la vida  me envió en otra dirección y la idea se congeló. Pero Anelys continuó con la idea, ella ya estaba enamorada de Beara con todas las cosas que le dije.
Esta exposición es más que puro amor, si Anelys está ahí ahora es solo porque ella tuvo la convicción de concretar la idea de ir allá. Será muy importante puesto que identificarse con otras culturas nos hace más humanos, más universales, y también su proyecto personal de hacer pinturas de fotografías antiguas de gente o familias de allíí será una especie de scanner del espíritu del lugar de todos ustedes.
Ella es como los antiguos viajeros, una investigadora, ella está buscando y observando el mundo y las culturas constantemente y le des da de vuelta hermosas pinturas que traducen la vida de los otros, que es nuestra vida de alguna manera. Un ejercicio de identificación humana.
Estoy muy feliz de presentarles a Anelys y su manera chilota de ser, estoy muy contenta de que  a través de este arte se puedan conectar diferentes puntos del mundo y es increíble que esto esté ocurriendo con dos pequeños lugares de la tierra que no son grandes ciudades, porque en los pequeños pueblos  estamos lejos de otros lugares pero no de la gente, un gran punto ahí.

Gracias a todos por ayudarnos a hacer esto posible, gracias a Sarah por acoger esta exposición, y por su apertura con la idea, gracias a Maureen un ángel, una estrella super amiga, a John a Marleen a Dorothy y a Sheila, gente de Eyeries, a los Pubs y a toda la gente que ha facilitado fotografías a Anelys y gracias a todas la comunidad de la península de  Beara por ser parte de este gran proyecto.

Como me gustaría estar ahí con ustedes
